2016 NC Woodcarving Festival Saturday March 19th

Join us for the 14th Annual North Carolina Woodcarving Festival held at Klingspor's Woodworking Shop Raleigh! The festival will be held on Saturday, March 19th.

  • Youth: Open to carvers who are 18 years of age or less. There are no categories for the Youth Division.
  • Novice: Open to those who have been carving for less than three years. There are no categories for the Novice Division.
  • Intermediate: Open to carvers with greater experience and skill who may have won ribbons in competition before. 15 categories.
  • Open: Open to carvers who wish to compete in a much higher level of competition. 15 categories.

Feb 4  | Woodcarving Apprenticeship Program CLICK TO READ OR COLLAPSE

Instructor: Paul Rolfe. This is an on-going class that you can sign up for a month of sessions or up to three months in advance to save money. You are encouraged to take an introductory class before starting this program. In the class, you will be taught the traditional approach of woodcarving using gouges, chisels and a mallet. The first thing you will learn is how to sharpen your tools and then how to use them properly. Eventually, you will be able to work on any project of your choice, receiving instructive input along the way. Please call Paul at the store for more information.

6:30 - 9 pm Every Thursday.

Feb 6  | Seat Weaving with Fiber Rush CLICK TO READ OR COLLAPSE

Instructor: Tim Smith. In this class, you will learn how to weave a chair or stool seat with fiber rush using a traditional pattern. You may either bring your own chair or stool that has a rail frame or purchase a stool ($24.29) from the instructor. The class fee includes the rush.

Feb 13| Turning a Natural Edge Bowl CLICK TO READ OR COLLAPSE

Instructor: Meryl Valnes. This class will cover how to mount, balance, turn and finish a natural edge bowl. If you have your own tools, the minimum requirements are 3/8" bowl gouge, 1/2" skew, and a scraper. All wood and chucks will be provided. It would be very helpful if you have had a beginning turning class prior to taking this class.
