Mar 1  | Wood Carving for Furniture CLICK TO READ OR COLLAPSE

1 - 5 pm.

Cost: $149 (All materials included) for both days (Continued from February 28th)

Instructor: Paul Rolfe. Using traditional woodcarving techniques, you will learn to carve different ornamental elements for furniture. Designs covered may include: a sunburst rosette, flame finial, and acanthus leaves. There will also be discussions and demonstrations about how to carve a ball and claw foot and a Newport style shell.

Mar 5  | Woodcarving Apprenticeship Program CLICK TO READ OR COLLAPSE

Instructor: Paul Rolfe. This is an on-going class that you can sign up for a month of sessions or up to three months in advance to save money. You are encouraged to take an introductory class before starting this program. In the class, you will be taught the traditional approach of woodcarving using gouges, chisels and a mallet. The first thing you will learn is how to sharpen your tools and then how to use them properly. Eventually, you will be able to work on any project of your choice, receiving instructive input along the way. Please call Paul at the store for more information.

Cost: $95

Instructor: Alan Leland. This class covers all of the fundamentals of woodturning and should be taken before other turning classes. You will learn all about the machines, the tools and the techniques first so that you can fully enjoy finding your own way without the frustrations that many beginning wood turners experience.

Cost: $165 for both days

Instructor: Paul Rolfe. Relief carving is the act of "relieving" a design from a usually flat background. The third dimension in space is either greatly reduced as in the case of shallow or bas relief, or it is fully carved as in the case of deep relief carving. In this class you will learn the traditional approach to relief carving including the topics of design, layout and execution using gouges and a mallet. Once you learn these basic skills, you will be able to produce your own classic designs in wood on panels and furniture.

This is a 2-day class. The second day is held on March 29th.

Mar 28| Introduction to Bowl Turning CLICK TO READ OR COLLAPSE

9 am - 4 pm.

Cost: $95 (Includes bowl blanks)

Instructor: Alan Leland. In this hands-on class, you will turn a wooden bowl on the lathe. Emphasis will be on developing the proper skills for getting excellent results every time. Tool selection, use, and sharpening are all covered.
