It’s time to turn! Join us for this class if you want to start or have just started the art of wood turning. Learn the basic parts of the lathe and how it works. Learn the basic turning tool shapes and how they shape spindles and bowls. Chucks and other lathe accessories, such as live centers, spur drives, pen mandrels, and drill chucks, will be demonstrated and discussed. Samples of finished projects, from pens to table legs to bowls, will be available for study and questions. All participants will get a chance to turn some sample pieces to practice cutting various common shapes with a basic set of turning tools. December 13th: Choosing, Tuning and Using Hand Planes
Choosing, Tuning, and Using Hand Planes
Saturday December 13th from 9:30am - 1:00pm
Instructor: Brian Coe
The hand plane is the king of the woodworking hand tools. See why this tool has persisted and thrived in the woodworking world for over two centuries! In this class, participants will learn how and why planes work the way they do. Various wood and metal-bodied planes will be shown and demonstrated, ranging from scrub, jack, smoothing, jointing planes, molding planes, and special-purpose joint planes. Participants will learn to set up, tune, and adjust their aircraft to provide glass-smooth surfaces and see-through shavings. The last step in the class will be to take a piece of rough-sawn lumber and plane it to a smooth, square, dimensioned board. Bring in your oddball or unknown planes for dating and identification.
For more information call 336-768-9663
$75 for class. Planes will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have them to help tune and diagnose problems.
