The Narex factory, founded in 1919 by blacksmith Vaclav Richter, has been producing high-quality edge tools for 100 years. Initially focused on chisels and gimlets, Narex is now known for its extensive range of affordable bench chisels. Despite significant modernization, the factory retains traditional drop-forging techniques at its original Bystrice site, enhancing the strength and durability of its steel.

Blades:

Richter chisel blades are crafted from the highest-quality Chrome Vanadium (Cr-V) steel, using traditional drop-forging methods. The blades are then hardened, cryogenically treated, and tempered to achieve a minimum hardness of 62 HRc. A fine-grinding and polishing process ensures a mirror-like surface and ultra-thin sides, enabling access to very tight spaces, making them ideal for cleaning out dovetails. The front bevel is ground at 24 degrees.

Cryogenic Treatment:

Following the initial hardening process, cryogenic treatment is performed by cooling the steel down to -190° C (-310° F) using liquid nitrogen. This process alters the steel's mechanical properties at the molecular level, significantly increasing its strength, toughness, and wear resistance.

Handles:

Richter chisel handles are made from responsibly harvested European Ash, known for its strength, toughness, and attractive grain patterns. The ergonomic handles are sanded and finished with friction shellac for maximum protection, comfort, and control. Solid stainless-steel ferrules protect the handles from splitting, while leather washers absorb the shock from mallet blows.

Narex Richter Chisels come with a lifetime guarantee. If there is a manufacturer's defect in material, design, or construction, Narex will provide a free replacement or repair. However, this guarantee becomes void if the products are damaged due to carelessness, neglect, or improper use.
