Class Description and Details
This design has been a classic in America for more than 400 years. It’s traditionally made from five wide boards joined together, and our version includes a hidden storage space under the seat. We’ll use poplar wood and historic forged head fasteners, so you can paint or stain the bench when it’s done.
The finished bench is great for a porch, entryway, mudroom, or anywhere you like. It will measure about 19 inches tall, 13 inches wide, and 48 inches long. We’ll mostly use hand tools, but power tools will be available if you prefer. You can choose to use antique hand planes or a router table to add decorative bead details.
We’ll also show you how to recreate the worn, distressed paint finish you see on the sample bench.
