Crown, Hope M2 Cryo 19mm Radius Skew with 1/2" Bar

Length: 295 mm, with a 19 mm radius skew. These tang tools are securely fastened to a 16 mm round bar using a special metal liquid, ensuring they remain firmly in place. They can be utilized with either the red quick-release head or the 16.5 mm grub screw handle.

It has long been established that by subjecting metal tools to elevated temperatures and then rapidly cooling them, we can alter their properties. This occurs because the metal's crystal structure changes, affecting its performance in use. The two primary crystal types in tooling steel are the larger and softer austenite and the smaller, more stable martensite. Through heat treatment, we aim to transform austenite into martensite, yielding steel with good wear resistance and some ductility.

When combined with high-quality heat treatment, the cryogenic process significantly enhances the transformation of austenite. At extreme temperatures of -301°F (-185°C), fine ‘eta’ carbides form within the carbon structure. These eta carbides grow very slowly and only at these low temperatures. They are extremely small and act as a 'filler' between other crystals in the metal.

The overall effect of cryogenic processing is to produce a refined crystal structure in your hand tool, ensuring a lifetime of service. This results in a blade that retains its edge longer, providing a superior feel during use.
