The new POWERMATIC 701 Benchtop Mortiser features an in-line depth stop that allows users to set preset depths without adjusting the mortiser bit to the base. Its heavy-duty reversible handle is versatile and can be quickly and easily switched from one side to the other without the need for tools. 

The stock hold-down system includes a specially designed double-lock mechanism: one lock secures from the side, while the other locks from the top, effectively eliminating any slippage when removing the chisel from the workpiece. This hold-down is also reversible, accommodating stock from 0 to 5 inches thick.

The POWERMATIC 701 Benchtop Mortiser is equipped with a quick-action cam lock that secures the fence into position with a simple 90-degree movement. This lock includes lock nuts, ensuring that once set, adjustments do not need to be repeated. 

Setup has never been easier or more precise. The mortiser features an integrated bit-and-chisel spacer system that allows users to accurately and quickly account for the required space between the bit and chisel during setup. 

Additionally, the large work surfaces on both the table and fence provide increased stability and precision for cuts. The mortiser includes a large hinged chuck door with a magnetic catch, which allows easy access to the drill chuck using the standard 4-inch chuck key to secure the bit in place. Furthermore, the rack-and-pinion mechanism facilitates simple, quick adjustments to the fence.
