Class Description, Info, or Special Instructions:
The cabinet scraper is an amazing tool for doing final finishing of wood surfaces, joint leveling, smoothing complex grain, and even leveling a finish between coats. You may even find it replacing sandpaper for many chores in your shop! The trick is to get the scraper sharpened and tuned properly for maximum performance. If your scrapers just create dust and frustration rather than shavings and satisfaction, then this class is for you. Participants will go through the processes of flattening, jointing, polishing, and turning a burr on their scraper to produce tissue-thin shavings. Each of the scraper tasks mentioned above will be demonstrated and discussed. Sharpening curved scrapers and cast-iron scraper planes will also be shown. All participants will receive a new scraper to sharpen, use, and take home. Feel free to bring in personal scrapers to sharpen as time allows.
