Southeastern Pyrography Association Monthly Club Meeting

The club meets the first Saturday of the Month and currently consists of 31 active members interested in the art of pyrography. Please bring any projects you would like to share with the group at the “show and tell” segment and any tips or tricks you might have to share. Everyone will be allowed an opportunity to work on a pyrography project of their choice at the meeting (time permitting). Guests are always welcome.

The North Carolina Woodturners Association is a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners with members from North Carolina and several neighboring states, organized in 1990 to promote and interest in woodturning for persons of all levels of ability, whether beginners or full-time professionals; to provide information, education, instruction, and opportunities for hands-on experience; to encourage creativity and to explore new methods and techniques for advancing woodturning as a creative art form.

Catawba Valley Woodcarvers Monthly Club Meeting

Meetings are the 3rd Saturday of each month and start at 1 pm and usually last until 3 pm. After a short business session there is usually a program given by a member or a invited guest presenter. Members have the opportunity to bring projects they are working on or work on the "club project". Members are encouraged to bring finished items for "show and tell". Refreshments are brought by club members who volunteer each month.

Western Piedmont Woodcrafters is an informal group of men and women dedicated to ALL kinds of woodworking. We meet once a month for a couple of hours to hear guest speakers talk about a woodworking project, demonstrate a hand or power tool, or new woodworking techniques.

This class is designed for students that have never touched a woodburner, as well as students that have experience and wish to improve their skills. Do not worry if you are not an artist! Michele will teach you how to transfer a pattern and burn it.

Saturday, January 31st from 9:30am - 4:30pm

Class Cost: $135
Class Size 12

This class is designed for students who have never used a woodburner, as well as those with experience who wish to improve their skills. Do not worry if you are not an artist! Michele will teach you how to transfer a pattern and burn it.

Basic information about woodburning is covered, including: safety, wood selection and preparation, equipment selection and care, burning techniques with different types of pens, transferring patterns, correcting mistakes, adding color and finishes, and you’ll use the basic pens to practice woodburning techniques. Then you will burn your first pyrography project.

Note to interested woodcarvers/woodworkers: This class will teach you woodburning skills that are best to master on a flat surface before you start woodburning round/carved pieces.

Instructor: Michele Parsons Michele Parsons is a professional pyrography artist and author for Fox Chapel Publishing's Pyrography magazine, Leather Pyrography book, Quick-Start Woodburning Guide, and a contributor to the Big Book of Pyrography Projects. She has been teaching pyrography for over 19 years, including at the International Woodcarving Congress, the John C. Campbell Folk School, the Southeastern Woodcarving School, the American Woodcarving School, and various regional clubs.

Class Cost: $135 paid to Klingspor’s Woodworking Shop (includes materials, handouts, and pattern) 10% Discount to Southeastern Pyrography Assoc (SEPA) members (current or enrolled by class)

Equipment: Wire-Tip Woodburner and Tips.
Loaner equipment is available on a first-come basis (no charge). Call Klingspor's Woodworking Shop (828) 326-9663 to reserve.
