Our June demonstrator will be John Johnson.  He will be demonstrating a split bowl/half-moon bowl.

The design of the half-moon bowl was inspired by Alan Carter's work. A split bowl is a unique turning project that can be made from a single board. After turning, the bowl is cut in half and then reassembled by gluing the edges together at the rim. The demonstration will focus on the entire construction process of the split bowl, from start to finish. The design and display possibilities for these bowls are endless. John will discuss various methods for embellishing the bowls and will present some examples for display.

About John Johnson: John began woodturning about ten years ago, starting with pens, which many consider the entry point into the hobby. He then progressed to creating bowls, hollow forms, vases, and both closed and open segmenting. John enjoys spending as much of his free time as possible in his small workshop, tinkering and working on various projects. These include woodturning, building jigs, laser engraving, and, more recently, exploring how 3D printing can enhance his woodturning work. Currently, John serves as the president of the Waxhaw Woodturners, a role that often takes up most of his remaining free time.
