Description

Veritas Micro-Adjust Wheel Marking Gauge

  • Fine-Pitch Micro-Adjust Thread: Once you set the rough projection, you can fine-tune the cutter position within a 1/4" range using the internal fine-pitch thread. This lets you make repeatable and precise adjustments.
  • Locking Knobs Hold Settings: Two locking knobs prevent the setting from moving during use. This keeps the gauge accurate through a full run of cuts and helps you get consistent results.
  • Eccentric Rod Placement for Stability: The rod runs off-center through the brass face and aluminum body. This gives you a large reference surface for square registration on your workpiece and helps keep the gauge from rolling on your bench.
  • Hardened Steel Wheel Cutter: The wheel cuts wood fibers cleanly instead of tearing them, so you get a neat, consistent scribe line even across the grain. This avoids the chatter and grain-following problems of pin gauges, making your marking more reliable.
  • Single-Sided Bevel Pulls Face Against Stock: The wheel's single-sided bevel pulls the gauge face firmly against the edge of your workpiece. This keeps your markings accurate and makes setup easier.
  • Cutter at Extreme End of Rod: The cutting edge extends right to the tip of the rod. This is helpful for transferring measurements like tenon shoulder depth and mortise depth straight from your workpiece.
  • Rod Upgrade Available Separately: You can buy the micro-adjust rod on its own. This lets owners of the Veritas standard wheel marking gauge add the new adjustment feature without replacing the whole tool, making it more useful.

Description

This micro-adjust wheel-marking gauge builds on twenty years of experience. It includes improvements over our earlier models for better performance and more value for users.

The adjustment mechanism in the stainless-steel rod is easy to use. Once you set the rough projection, you can fine-tune the cutter position within a 1/4" range. The fine-pitch thread lets you make careful, repeatable adjustments with ease.

Locking knobs prevent the setting from moving during use. The off-center rod through the brass face and aluminum body gives you a large reference surface for square registration and helps keep the gauge from rolling on your bench.

The heart of the marking gauge is the hardened steel wheel cutter. It solves two main problems of pin-based gauges: you don't need to tilt it to avoid chatter, and it won't follow the wood grain and throw off your line. The wheel scribes clean, accurate marks at any point, even across the grain, for a more reliable layout.

The wheel's single-sided bevel pulls the gauge face against your workpiece, which helps keep your markings accurate. The cutting edge is at the end of the rod for transferring measurements like tenon shoulder and mortise depth. It also retracts into a hollow in the gauge face for protection and longer life.

You can also buy the micro-adjust rod separately from the gauge body. This lets you upgrade your Veritas standard wheel marking gauge with the new adjustment feature and keep your tool working better.
